1\u00a0<\/strong>Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus rebuked Peter more than any other disciple<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To those who are elect exiles of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,2 <\/sup>according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

May grace and peace be multiplied to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born Again to a Living Hope<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!\u00a0According to his great mercy,\u00a0he has caused us to be born again to a living hope\u00a0through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,\u00a04\u00a0<\/sup>to\u00a0an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and\u00a0unfading,\u00a0kept in heaven for you,5\u00a0<\/sup>who by God’s power are being guarded\u00a0through faith for a salvation\u00a0ready to be revealed in the last time.\u00a0
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Peter considered the salvation of God, his immediate response was to simply praise Him. This is especially because the motive for God\u2019s work is found in Him, not in us<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

6\u00a0<\/sup>In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by\u00a0various trials,\u00a07\u00a0<\/sup>so that\u00a0the tested genuineness of your faith\u2014more precious than gold that perishes\u00a0though it is tested by\u00a0fire\u2014may be found to result in\u00a0praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.8\u00a0<\/sup>Though you have not seen him, you love him.\u00a0Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,\u00a09\u00a0<\/sup>obtaining\u00a0the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIndeed, it is the honor of faith to be tried. Shall any man say, \u2018I have faith, but I have never had to believe under difficulties\u2019? Who knows whether thou hast any faith? Shall a man say, \u2018I have great faith in God, but I have never had to use it in anything more than the ordinary affairs of life, where I could probably have done without it as well as with it\u2019? Is this to the honor and praise of thy faith? Dost thou think that such a faith as this will bring any great glory to God, or bring to thee any great reward? If so, thou art mightily mistaken.\u201d (Spurgeon)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

10 <\/sup>Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully,11 <\/sup>inquiring what person or time[a<\/a>]<\/sup>the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 <\/sup>It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Called to Be Holy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

13\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore,\u00a0preparing your minds for action,[b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0and\u00a0being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.\u00a014\u00a0<\/sup>As obedient children,\u00a0do not be conformed to the passions\u00a0of your former ignorance,\u00a015\u00a0<\/sup>but\u00a0as he who called you is holy, you also be holy\u00a0in all your conduct,\u00a016\u00a0<\/sup>since it is written,\u00a0\u201cYou shall be holy, for I am holy.\u201d\u00a017\u00a0<\/sup>And if you\u00a0call on him as Father who\u00a0judges\u00a0impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves\u00a0with fear throughout the time of your exile,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peter has told us a lot about God\u2019s grace.\u00a0Do we fully understand Gods grace? Have we tasted Gods Grace?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a018\u00a0<\/sup>knowing that you\u00a0were ransomed from\u00a0the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold,19\u00a0<\/sup>but\u00a0with the precious blood of Christ, like that of\u00a0a lamb\u00a0without blemish or spot.\u00a020\u00a0<\/sup>He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but\u00a0was made manifest\u00a0in the last times for the sake of you\u00a021\u00a0<\/sup>who through him are believers in God,\u00a0who raised him from the dead and\u00a0gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The high call for godly living makes sense in light of the price that was paid for our redemption. The precious blood of Jesus did not save us so that we could then live as if we were garbage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22 <\/sup>Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, 23 <\/sup>since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; 24 <\/sup>for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAll flesh is like grass
    and all its glory like the flower of grass.
The grass withers,
    and the flower falls,
25 <\/sup>but the word of the Lord remains forever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
