{"id":6286,"date":"2020-04-14T05:00:41","date_gmt":"2020-04-14T10:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbcnewhaven.com\/wp\/?p=6286"},"modified":"2020-04-15T09:30:41","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T14:30:41","slug":"acts-21-36","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbcnewhaven.com\/?p=6286","title":{"rendered":"Acts 2:1-36"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The\nComing of the Holy Spirit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2&nbsp;<\/strong>When&nbsp;the\nday of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place.&nbsp;<strong><sup>2&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And suddenly there came\nfrom heaven a sound like&nbsp;a mighty rushing wind, and&nbsp;it filled the\nentire house where they were sitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This sound represents the power of the Holy\nSpirit. In Gods word, the words for wind and for spirit are similar.<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>3&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And divided tongues&nbsp;as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them.&nbsp;<strong><sup>4&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And they were all&nbsp;filled with the Holy Spirit and began&nbsp;to speak in other tongues&nbsp;as the Spirit gave them utterance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The term&nbsp;&#8220;other tongues&#8221;&nbsp;simply means languages other than&nbsp;the apostles\u2019 own. It gave them the opportunity to preach to other nations. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>5&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>Now there\nwere dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under\nheaven.&nbsp;<strong><sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And&nbsp;at\nthis sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each\none was hearing them speak in his own language.&nbsp;<strong><sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And&nbsp;they were amazed\nand astonished, saying, \u201cAre not all these who are\nspeaking&nbsp;Galileans?&nbsp;<strong><sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And how is it that we hear, each of us in his\nown native language?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Each person heard the gospel in his or her own\nnative language because the apostles were speaking those languages&nbsp;(Acts 2:4). We don\u2019t have an excuse to not share the Gospel. <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>Parthians\nand&nbsp;Medes and&nbsp;Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and\nCappadocia, Pontus and Asia,&nbsp;<strong><sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of\nLibya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome,&nbsp;<strong><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>both Jews\nand&nbsp;proselytes, Cretans and Arabians\u2014we hear them telling in our own\ntongues the mighty works of God.\u201d&nbsp;<strong><sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And&nbsp;all were amazed and perplexed, saying\nto one another, \u201cWhat does this mean?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>They all were searching for some answers,\nthey believed their eyes and ears were being tricked. This is a very sad\nthought process as it shows the lack of trust from the Messiah, and the\nslowness of their heart to believe what the prophets have spoken. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<strong><sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>But\nothers&nbsp;mocking said, \u201cThey are filled with new wine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Just like we see in our culture today, people will come up with\nthe craziest things to dishonor the work of the Lord. This was the best they\ncould do and had to be hearing things due to them being drunk (Look at verse\n15)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Peter&#8217;s\nSermon at Pentecost<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: \u201cMen of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.&nbsp;<strong><sup>15&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>For these people are not drunk, as you suppose,&nbsp;since it is only the third hour of the day.&nbsp;<strong><sup>16&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The real answer did not need to be spoken, for\nthe miracle spoke for itself. It was obvious that these men were not alcoholics\ndrunk in the morning. Peter left it unsaid that no drunkard could do what Peter\nand his&nbsp;fellows were doing.<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>17&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>\u201c\u2018And in the last days it\nshall be, God declares,<br>\nthat I will pour out my Spirit&nbsp;on all flesh,<br>\nand your sons and&nbsp;your daughters shall prophesy,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and your\nyoung men shall see visions,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and your\nold men shall dream dreams;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The word \u201cpour\u201d is commonly applied to water or to blood, The Spirit here denotes the Third Person of the Trinity, promised by the Savior, and sent to finish his work, and apply it to people. The Holy Spirit is regarded as the source or conveyer of all the blessings which Christians experience. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\n<strong><sup>18&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>even on\nmy male servants and female servants<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;in those\ndays I will pour out my Spirit, and&nbsp;they shall prophesy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>\n<strong><sup>19&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And I\nwill show wonders in the heavens above<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and signs\non the earth below,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;blood,\nand fire, and vapor of smoke;<br>\n<strong><sup>20&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>the sun\nshall be turned to darkness<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;and the\nmoon to blood,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;before&nbsp;the\nday of the Lord comes, the great and magnificent day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>21&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>And it shall come to pass that&nbsp;everyone who calls\nupon the name of the Lord shall be saved.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scripture\nsays, \u201cthat everyone who calls upon the name\u201d We as believers need to that read\nthat and see we have work to do. We know not everybody who walks the world will\nget saved but we have been called to share our faith. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>22&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cMen of Israel, hear these\nwords: Jesus of Nazareth,&nbsp;a man attested to you by God&nbsp;with&nbsp;mighty\nworks and wonders and signs that&nbsp;God did through him in your midst, as you\nyourselves know\u2014&nbsp;<strong><sup>23&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>this\nJesus,<sup>[<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+2%3A1-36&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-26961c\"><sup>c<\/sup><\/a><sup>]<\/sup>&nbsp;delivered\nup according to&nbsp;the definite plan and&nbsp;foreknowledge of God,&nbsp;you\ncrucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.&nbsp;<strong><sup>24&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>God raised him up, loosing\nthe pangs of death, because&nbsp;it was not possible for him to be held by\nit.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Jesus defeated death and covered our sins with his blood\nthat anyone who will trust in His Holy name will be saved.&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>25&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>For David says concerning\nhim,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018I saw\nthe Lord always before me,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;for he is\nat my right hand that I may not be shaken;<br>\n<strong><sup>26&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>therefore\nmy heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced;<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;my flesh\nalso will dwell&nbsp;in hope.<br>\n<strong><sup>27&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>For you\nwill not abandon my soul to&nbsp;Hades,<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;or let\nyour&nbsp;Holy One&nbsp;see corruption.<br>\n<strong><sup>28&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>You have\nmade known to me the paths of life;<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;you will\nmake me full of gladness with your presence.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Do you\nsee the Lord right there next to you guiding and walking this crazy life with\nyou?&nbsp; Do we stop and just rejoice His\nHoly name? knowing we have Jesus in us needs to pour out of our attitude. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>29&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cBrothers, I may say to you\nwith confidence about&nbsp;the patriarch David&nbsp;that he both died\nand&nbsp;was buried, and&nbsp;his tomb is with us to this day.&nbsp;<strong><sup>30&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>Being therefore a prophet,\nand knowing that&nbsp;God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one\nof his descendants on his throne,&nbsp;<strong><sup>31&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of\nthe Christ, that&nbsp;he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see\ncorruption.&nbsp;<strong><sup>32&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>This\nJesus&nbsp;God raised up,&nbsp;and of that we all are witnesses.&nbsp;<strong><sup>33&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>Being\ntherefore&nbsp;exalted at the right hand of God, and having received\nfrom&nbsp;the Father&nbsp;the promise of the Holy Spirit,&nbsp;he has poured\nout this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.&nbsp;<strong><sup>34&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>For&nbsp;David did not\nascend into the heavens, but he himself says,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u2018The\nLord said to my Lord,<br>\n\u201cSit at my right hand,<br>\n<strong><sup>35&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;until I make your enemies\nyour footstool.\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><sup>36&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that&nbsp;God has made him&nbsp;both Lord and Christ, this Jesus&nbsp;whom you crucified.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pastor Nathan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>\u201cScripture quotations are from the ESV\u00ae Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version\u00ae), copyright \u00a9 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers.
