8\u00a0<\/strong>Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest,\u00a0one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,2\u00a0<\/sup>a minister in the holy places, in\u00a0the true tent[a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0that the Lord\u00a0set up, not man.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The writer of Hebrews brings together the\u00a0main point\u00a0of the previous chapter. We have a\u00a0High Priest\u00a0\u2013 Jesus Christ \u2013 who serves us from a position of all authority in heaven<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus\u00a0it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer.\u00a04\u00a0<\/sup>Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law.\u00a05\u00a0<\/sup>They serve\u00a0a copy and\u00a0shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying,\u00a0\u201cSee that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.\u201d\u00a06\u00a0<\/sup>But as it is, Christ[b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0has obtained a ministry that is\u00a0as much more excellent than the old as\u00a0the covenant\u00a0he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No earthly priest could take away sin the way Jesus did. Therefore Jesus\u2019\u00a0ministry\u00a0is far better than the ministry of the priesthood under the Law of Moses.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

7\u00a0<\/sup>For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8 <\/sup>For he finds fault with them when he says:[c<\/a>]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBehold, the days are coming, declares the Lord,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and with the house of Judah,
9\u00a0<\/sup>not like the covenant that I made with their fathers
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt.
For they did not continue in my covenant,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and so I showed no concern for them, declares the Lord.
10\u00a0<\/sup>For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0after those days, declares the Lord:
I will put my laws into their minds,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0write them on their hearts,
and I will be their God,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and they shall be my people.
11\u00a0<\/sup>And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and each one his brother, saying, \u2018Know the Lord,\u2019
for they shall\u00a0all know me,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0from the least of them to the greatest.
12\u00a0<\/sup>For I will be merciful toward their iniquities,
\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and I will remember their sins no more.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Covenant offers a true, complete cleansing from sin, different and better than the mere \u201ccovering over\u201d of sin in the Old Covenant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

13\u00a0<\/sup>In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And\u00a0what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0The message was clear to these discouraged Christians from Jewish backgrounds, who thought of going back to a more Jewish faith.
