{"id":7182,"date":"2020-10-02T05:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-02T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbcnewhaven.com\/wp\/?p=7182"},"modified":"2020-10-01T20:45:00","modified_gmt":"2020-10-02T01:45:00","slug":"hebrews-9","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbcnewhaven.com\/?p=7182","title":{"rendered":"Hebrews 9"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>9\u00a0<\/strong>Now even the first covenant had regulations for worship and\u00a0an earthly place of holiness.\u00a0<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0a tent<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30091a\">a<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0was prepared, the first section, in which were\u00a0the lampstand and\u00a0the table and\u00a0the bread of the Presence.<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30091b\">b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0It is called the Holy Place.\u00a0<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>Behind\u00a0the second curtain was a second section<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30092c\">c<\/a>]<\/sup>called the Most Holy Place,\u00a0<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>having the golden\u00a0altar of incense and\u00a0the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was\u00a0a golden urn holding the manna, and\u00a0Aaron&#8217;s staff that budded, and\u00a0the tablets of the covenant.\u00a0<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>Above it were\u00a0the cherubim of glory overshadowing\u00a0the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>As God looked down into the ark, He saw the symbols of Israel\u2019s sin, rebellion and failure. But when the blood of sacrifice was applied to the mercy seat, the blood of sacrifice covered His sight of the sin of Israel.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>6&nbsp;<\/sup>These preparations having thus been made,&nbsp;the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties,&nbsp;<sup>7&nbsp;<\/sup>but into the second only&nbsp;the high priest goes, and he but&nbsp;once a year, and not without taking blood,&nbsp;which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people.&nbsp;<sup>8&nbsp;<\/sup>By this the Holy Spirit indicates that&nbsp;the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing&nbsp;<sup>9&nbsp;<\/sup>(which is symbolic for the present age).<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30098d\">d<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered&nbsp;that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper,&nbsp;<sup>10&nbsp;<\/sup>but deal only with&nbsp;food and drink and&nbsp;various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Redemption Through the Blood of Christ<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>11&nbsp;<\/sup>But when Christ appeared as a high priest&nbsp;of the good things that have come,<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30100e\">e<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;then through&nbsp;the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation)&nbsp;<sup>12&nbsp;<\/sup>he&nbsp;entered&nbsp;once for all into the holy places, not by means of&nbsp;the blood of goats and calves but&nbsp;by means of his own blood,&nbsp;thus securing an eternal redemption.&nbsp;<sup>13&nbsp;<\/sup>For if&nbsp;the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with&nbsp;the ashes of a heifer, sanctify<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30102f\">f<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;for the purification of the flesh,&nbsp;<sup>14&nbsp;<\/sup>how much more will&nbsp;the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit&nbsp;offered himself without blemish to God,&nbsp;purify our<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30103g\">g<\/a>]<\/sup>&nbsp;conscience&nbsp;from dead works&nbsp;to serve the living God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore he is\u00a0the mediator of a new covenant, so that\u00a0those who are called may\u00a0receive the promised eternal inheritance,\u00a0since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.<sup>[<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews%209&amp;version=ESV#fen-ESV-30104h\">h<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Animal sacrifice was sufficient for a temporary covering of sin, but only a perfect sacrifice could obtain\u00a0eternal redemption. How blessed we are to not have ton worry about this? We get to trust Jesus as our person lord and savior. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established.\u00a0<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>For\u00a0a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive.\u00a0<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated\u00a0without blood.\u00a0<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took\u00a0the blood of calves and goats,\u00a0with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people,\u00a0<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>saying,\u00a0\u201cThis is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.\u201d\u00a0<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both\u00a0the tent and all the vessels used in worship.\u00a0<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and\u00a0without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIf there be a question about whether a man is alive or not, you cannot administer to his estate, but when you have certain evidence that the testator has died then the will stands. So is it with the blessed gospel: if Jesus did not die, then the gospel is null and void.\u201d (Spurgeon)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How blessed we are that the Gospel will never be null and void. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>Thus it was necessary for\u00a0the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.\u00a0<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>For Christ has entered, not into holy places\u00a0made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God\u00a0on our behalf.\u00a0<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as\u00a0the high priest enters\u00a0the holy places every year with blood not his own,<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is,\u00a0he has appeared\u00a0once for all\u00a0at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.\u00a0<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>And just as\u00a0it is appointed for man to die once, and\u00a0after that comes judgment,\u00a0<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>so Christ, having been offered once\u00a0to bear the sins of\u00a0many, will appear\u00a0a second time,\u00a0not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly\u00a0waiting for him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cIt ought to be a daily disappointment when our Lord does not come; instead of being, as I fear it is, a kind of foregone conclusion that he will not come just yet.\u201d (Spurgeon)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We should be looking forward to the day we get to see our savior. To live is Christ and Die is to Gain.
