5\u00a0<\/strong>Come now,\u00a0you rich, weep and howl for the\u00a0miseries that are coming upon you.2\u00a0<\/sup>Your riches have rotted and\u00a0your garments are moth-eaten.\u00a03\u00a0<\/sup>Your gold and silver have corroded, and their corrosion will be evidence against you and will eat your flesh like fire.\u00a0You have laid up treasure\u00a0in the last days.\u00a0
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James had developed the idea of the need for complete dependence on God. He now naturally rebuked those most likely to live independently from God<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4\u00a0<\/sup>Behold,\u00a0the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and\u00a0the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of\u00a0(I<\/a>)<\/sup>the Lord of hosts.5\u00a0<\/sup>You have lived on the earth in luxury and\u00a0in self-indulgence. You have fattened your hearts in\u00a0a day of slaughter.\u00a06\u00a0<\/sup>You have condemned and\u00a0murdered\u00a0the righteous person. He does not resist you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Often those who are poor and without power in this world have little satisfaction from justice. Yet God hears their cries, and He is the one who guarantees to ultimately right every wrong and answer every injustice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Patience in Suffering<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

7\u00a0<\/sup>Be patient, therefore, brothers,until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives\u00a0the early and the late rains.\u00a08\u00a0<\/sup>You also, be patient.\u00a0Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord\u00a0is at hand.\u00a09\u00a0<\/sup>Do not grumble against one another, brothers,\u00a0so that you may not be judged; behold,\u00a0the Judge is standing\u00a0at the door.\u00a010\u00a0<\/sup>As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take\u00a0the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.\u00a011\u00a0<\/sup>Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of\u00a0the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen\u00a0the purpose of the Lord, how\u00a0the Lord is compassionate and merciful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This lack of character will be exposed at the judgment seat of Christ. This motivates us all the more to prepare for that judgment by our speaking with integrity.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

12\u00a0<\/sup>But above all, my brothers,\u00a0do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your \u201cyes\u201d be yes and your \u201cno\u201d be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prayer of Faith<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

13\u00a0<\/sup>Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him\u00a0sing praise.\u00a014\u00a0<\/sup>Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him,\u00a0anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.\u00a015\u00a0<\/sup>And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And\u00a0if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.\u00a016\u00a0<\/sup>Therefore,\u00a0confess your sins to one another and pray for one another,\u00a0that you may be healed.\u00a0The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.17\u00a0<\/sup>Elijah was a man\u00a0with a nature like ours, and\u00a0he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for\u00a0three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.18\u00a0<\/sup>Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Literally, this is\u00a0prayed with prayer<\/em>. To truly pray, by definition, is to pray\u00a0earnestly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
