Then I saw\u00a0(A<\/a>)<\/sup>a new heaven and a new earth, for\u00a0(B<\/a>)<\/sup>the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.2\u00a0<\/sup>And I saw\u00a0(C<\/a>)<\/sup>the holy city,\u00a0(D<\/a>)<\/sup>new Jerusalem,\u00a0(E<\/a>)<\/sup>coming down out of heaven from God,\u00a0(F<\/a>)<\/sup>prepared\u00a0(G<\/a>)<\/sup>as a bride adorned for her husband.\u00a03\u00a0<\/sup>And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, \u201cBehold,\u00a0(H<\/a>)<\/sup>the dwelling place[a<\/a>]<\/sup>of God is with man. He will\u00a0(I<\/a>)<\/sup>dwell with them, and they will be his people,[b<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a0and God himself will be with them as their God.[c<\/a>]<\/sup>\u00a04\u00a0(J<\/a>)<\/sup>He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and\u00a0(K<\/a>)<\/sup>death shall be no more,\u00a0(L<\/a>)<\/sup>neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some take this \u201cnewness\u201d as only a spiritual and moral change. But there seems to be a genuine physical transformation in mind:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0(M<\/a>)<\/sup>he who was seated on the throne said, \u201cBehold, I\u00a0(N<\/a>)<\/sup>am making all things new.\u201d Also he said, \u201cWrite this down, for\u00a0(O<\/a>)<\/sup>these words are trustworthy and true.\u201d\u00a06\u00a0<\/sup>And he said to me,\u00a0(P<\/a>)<\/sup>\u201cIt is done!\u00a0(Q<\/a>)<\/sup>I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.\u00a0(R<\/a>)<\/sup>To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.\u00a07\u00a0(S<\/a>)<\/sup>The one who conquers will have this heritage, and\u00a0(T<\/a>)<\/sup>I will be his God and\u00a0(U<\/a>)<\/sup>he will be my son.8\u00a0(V<\/a>)<\/sup>But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars,\u00a0(W<\/a>)<\/sup>their portion will be in\u00a0(X<\/a>)<\/sup>the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is\u00a0(Y<\/a>)<\/sup>the second death.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God\u2019s eternal purpose in Jesus is now accomplished. Ephesians 1:10 has been fulfilled:\u00a0that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth; in Him.<\/em>\u00a0At this point, all things have been resolved or summed up in Jesus<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New Jerusalem<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

9 <\/sup>Then came (Z<\/a>)<\/sup>one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of (AA<\/a>)<\/sup>the seven last plagues and spoke to me, saying, \u201cCome, I will show you (AB<\/a>)<\/sup>the Bride, the wife of the Lamb.\u201d 10 <\/sup>And (AC<\/a>)<\/sup>he carried me away in the Spirit to (AD<\/a>)<\/sup>a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God, 11 <\/sup>(AE<\/a>)<\/sup>having the glory of God, (AF<\/a>)<\/sup>its radiance (AG<\/a>)<\/sup>like a most rare jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.12 <\/sup>It had a great, high wall, (AH<\/a>)<\/sup>with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel were inscribed\u2014 13 <\/sup>on the east three gates, on the north three gates, on the south three gates, and on the west three gates. 14 <\/sup>And the wall of the city had twelve (AI<\/a>)<\/sup>foundations, and (AJ<\/a>)<\/sup>on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 <\/sup>And the one who spoke with me (AK<\/a>)<\/sup>had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city and its gates and walls. 16 <\/sup>The city lies foursquare, its length the same as its width. And he measured the city with his rod, 12,000 stadia.[d<\/a>]<\/sup> Its length and width and height are equal. 17 <\/sup>He also measured its wall, 144 cubits[e<\/a>]<\/sup> by (AL<\/a>)<\/sup>human measurement, which is also (AM<\/a>)<\/sup>an angel’s measurement. 18 <\/sup>The wall was built of (AN<\/a>)<\/sup>jasper, while the city was pure gold, like (AO<\/a>)<\/sup>clear glass. 19 <\/sup>(AP<\/a>)<\/sup>The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 <\/sup>the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. 21 <\/sup>And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and (AQ<\/a>)<\/sup>the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

22\u00a0<\/sup>And\u00a0(AR<\/a>)<\/sup>I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.\u00a023\u00a0<\/sup>And the city\u00a0(AS<\/a>)<\/sup>has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for\u00a0(AT<\/a>)<\/sup>the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.\u00a024\u00a0<\/sup>By its light\u00a0(AU<\/a>)<\/sup>will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth\u00a0(AV<\/a>)<\/sup>will bring their glory into it,25\u00a0<\/sup>and\u00a0(AW<\/a>)<\/sup>its gates will never be shut by day\u2014and\u00a0(AX<\/a>)<\/sup>there will be no night there.\u00a026\u00a0<\/sup>They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations.\u00a027\u00a0<\/sup>But\u00a0(AY<\/a>)<\/sup>nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s\u00a0(AZ<\/a>)<\/sup>book of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Jesus the temple was a prophecy. In the Christian era God\u2019s people are His temple. In the Millennium the temple will be a memorial. Here the temple is everywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
