This Chapter is a continuation of Jesus teaching in Chapters 14 and 15.\u00a0 He will end chapter 16 with\u00a0‘I speak these things that you may have peace’, speaking of a peaceful heart in Christ.\u00a0 But Christ starts the chapter\u00a0stating that some of you will die for the faith.\u00a0 We must fully understand the gospel of Christ will offend people and that is okay, because it will bring conviction and salvation.\u00a0 Those that do not receive salvation will seek to kill us.\u00a0\u00a0
\nFor many of you this is a new thing.\u00a0 You believed that following Christ will only bring happy times and happy things and we all sing kumbaya.\u00a0 The reason this is foreign is because the church has decided not to speak anything that is offensive, and we will work hard to let the world like us by doing and living the way they do.\u00a0 And when they see we are \u201cnormal\u2019, they will believe.\u00a0 The problem is they believe but they do not surrender and repent.\u00a0 Many, who have come into the church through this window of this understanding, travel quickly out the back door of the church when they are called to serve Christ or they experience difficulties.<\/span><\/p>\n

Verse 13 is to key to standing.\u00a0 The key is having the Holy Spirit totally in control.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit will guide us in truth.\u00a0 The Holy Spirit will glorify Christ and speak of Him, and not of Himself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The disciples don\u2019t understand.\u00a0 I feel that way at times, and I am sure you do to.\u00a0 They talk among themselves and Christ interrupts and gives them some answers.\u00a0 How funny is that scenario, Christ is right there but instead of asking Him they discuss it among themselves.\u00a0 We again are the same way; we try everything before\u00a0spending time in God’s Word or praying before God\u2019s throne.\u00a0 Christ explained His death, burial and resurrection.\u00a0 And soon I will work in you and bless you for my name sake.\u00a0 I will answer prayers that your joy may be full.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But be warned you will be scattered because of the Cross.\u00a0 But you will be brought back together because of the resurrection.\u00a0 Don\u2019t worry, I have overcome the world.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I hope some of this makes sense.\u00a0 There will be joy and sorrow in the Christian life.\u00a0 Live for God\u2019s glory and the eternal life to come.\u00a0 Our purpose in life is not me, but Christ.\u00a0 This life is but a vapor, very short term.\u00a0 It is all about God and the eternal life He died to give us. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
