3 John

Do you love truth? If what you believed was incorrect would you want to know? This thought breaks into our comfort zone and moves our furniture around so that we are a little uncomfortable. You probably would have answered this question no if for an argument you simply said, “I don’t believe that”, and you said that without reason or truth to back up why.

John loved Gaius in the truth. John desired that Gaius would prosper in health and wealth as he has prospered in truth. How would our lives be if our health and wealth were directly connected to our walk in God’s truth? I know for most of us we desire health and wealth in spite of living in any truth. The most important ingredient for a good life is truth the other two aspects are a distant second, and third.

Truth welcomes others who are in truth. They care for others because they know truth, but Paul points out by name a person who does not accept the church. Diotrephes did not want anyone to take his position or to question his leadership. Pride is the most destructive thing in our lives and the life of the church. Be careful not to run others down. Most of the time it is pride and your speech is a step to try and make yourself look good.

Be more like Demetrius, who has a good report. I guess there is a time to speak about a person. Sometimes we should point out a person who may do us harm. Today you can go online and find a list of pedophiles. Why? The list is there so we will be careful when it comes to our children. There is physical destruction looking to come and take our children. False religion should be marked as well as false teachers. Why? There is spiritual destruction looking to come and take our children.

Don’t live in some fake world where you don’t speak the truth in love. Sometimes speaking negatively is a positive for others to take as a warning.

Tomorrow we start the book of Acts, one chapter or so a day. Continue to read and grow in a better understanding of God’s truth.
