World events are God events and not just a sinful society going mad. Yes it is the results of sinful man, but God still has a plan. God moved the heart of Caesar Augustus to bring Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem so that prophecy would be fulfilled. Prophecy is not fulfilled by the will of men but by the power of a living God who honors His Word.
Jesus is born; the incarnation of Christ takes place. How wonderful is this event in your heart and in your mind? This is God, as part of the trinity, God’s Son coming into His creation in order to save us from the fall caused by our own hand. This is the greatest act of love and the greatest pronouncement against the seriousness of our sins. There was no other way to reconcile our sins. The condemnation we were facing could only be changed by Jesus Christ coming in the flesh to live as the Lamb of God. To then sacrifice Himself on the cross for our sins.
Joseph and Mary were a chosen couple to watch over the birth of this amazing King, our Lord. What a life changing privilege that took great sacrifice on their part. You and I need to wake up to the idea that is throughout all scripture: God is to be glorified, not just for us to be happy (I get all the toys). Joseph and Mary would never have a “normal life”, but it was a life we are still talking about over 2000 years later.
Today you and I need to praise God for this wonderful sacrifice that brought us salvation. But also ask ourselves are we willing to give up anything or even everything for God’s glory. As we did yesterday, today and tomorrow (Wednesday) we are going to have a time of fasting and prayer. The goal is to seek God during the period of time when we open our homes with the gospel and to prepare our hearts for the amazing Easter season. Will you fast with us and join us today at 6:30pm? There will be a light supper after the prayer time and we will be doing communion on tonight. Wednesday evening at 6:30 we’ll still have our regular prayer time when we go over the prayerlist, then our prayer service will be at 7pm.
