Matthew Chapter 12

There is much brought up about the Sabbath day which God created for rest.  Throughout the Old Testament this day was kept on Saturday which is the seventh day of the week.  The Jewish leaders had to keep setting up laws to regulate work on this day.  The early church changed the day to Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.  We no longer live in a time where the “Sabbath” is kept holy and for rest.  Society now schedules everything they can on Sunday which was forbidden by the pressure from society, and the church.  Now we just esteem every day the same and yes, there is a verse for that.

However, we have become avoiders of what is holy and abusers of what is sacred.  The sacred and holy is not only our corporate worship and functioning as the body of Christ, but you individually – Christian bodies are the Temple of God.  When God determines during the creation process to take the Sabbath off for rest and to celebrate what has been accomplished, why would we, as created beings, think we can go and go and go without the commanded rest and worship?
For your spiritual and physical health I implore you to make Sunday a protected day of rest and worship.  Your family, your doctor, and your creator will thank you.  Remember in the text Jesus did not break the Sabbath, but the rules that the Pharisees built around the Sabbath.  Life is too complicated and filled with non-eternal matter that should be pushed out so life can be enjoyed in Christ.
