Matthew Chapter 24
How does one write a thought on this the Olivet Discourse”? We will not answer all the questions but hopefully encourage us to share Christ as we anticipate the rapture of His Church. The chapter starts with Christ prophetically telling of the destruction of the Temple. The Temple was destroyed as Christ said in 70AD. The real trouble with the statement was the apostle’s theology. How can this be destroyed and Christ rule now? This compelled them to ask the question what are the signs of your coming?
These signs are signs for the second coming of Christ which happens at the end of the tribulation. The Scripture talks about a taking away, which we call the rapture, that takes place prior to the second coming where Christ comes to reign and rule. The rapture is the taking away of the church where Christ does not return but meets us in the air. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 & 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 concerning the catching away of the church. This needs no signs! It can happen any moment!
Any signs are for the second coming and not the rapture, the cool thing is this. When the Christmas items are in the store we know Thanksgiving is even closer! So rejoice that whatever signs you see are for the second coming but the rapture is even closer.
Here is the greatest sign for me. Matthew 24:14 The Gospel will be preached to every nation. Here is a sign we can be involved in, taking the gospel to the ends of the world. This is our calling by Jesus and our objective as stewards of the gospel. It is ok to wonder, and even get excited about signs, but it will happen when it happens, and the only part I can be involved in is sharing Christ to the world.
