Timothy is called to stand in the grace of God.  We love grace being applied to us but we have difficulty applying God’s grace to others.  Sin should not be ignored but always remember grace is applied when repentance is rendered.  We all have salvation by grace and have the ability to serve Christ because of grace.

As we celebrate grace, don’t lose sight of the fact that we are in a battle to stand for Christ.  Verse 2 calls us to be faithful as we teach the word to others. Who will stand faithful?  Verse 3 we are told to stand as a good soldier who is prepared to endure hardships.  Verse 4 and following calls us to sacrifice anything that will distract us from the war.  Wait, we are in a war?!  All I wanted was grace and forgiveness, not a battle.  Because of God’s grace Satan desires to destroy us so God will not receive any glory from our lives.  We have the ability because of grace to bring glory to God, but when we do not stand for Christ, Satan robs God of that glory.  You and I to Satan are insignificant, the only thing the devil desires is to embarrass God.  However, don’t ever forget God desires to benefit our lives through bringing glory to His name.  God cares for you and loves you.  This was demonstrated by the sacrifice of His Son on the cross for YOU.

We have a choice to make in this world.  We have a choice to stand strong for Jesus or to go back and live a “normal” life.  Will we stand for the glory of Christ who died for us and redeemed us?  The choice is between doing what we want (allowing Satan to win), or doing what the creator of the universe desires.  The determining factor will be your view of God and your gratefulness of salvation.
