GenesisWe are reading chapter 30 of Genesis today.  There is a battle between these two sisters, Leah and Rachel, to see who will have the line of the covenant.  In order for Rachel to even be in the running she had to have a baby boy.  Rachel even bartered for the Mandrakes that Leah’s son found.  They are also referred to as love apples.  They are about the size of a nutmeg, with a strong and agreeable odor, and were used by the ancients, as they still are by the Arabs, as a means of promoting child-bearing.  Rachel does not yet have Joseph which will preserve the covenant line.

In the Old Testament the Jews were God’s chosen people and covenant line.  Today we are easily placed in the covenant through the blood of Jesus Christ.  We are not physically born into the family covenant, but spiritually born into this heavenly covenant.  There should never be any battles between us as brothers and sisters in Christ.  There are plenty of blessings and there is room in the family of God for all of us.
