Today we read about Moses receiving the 10 Commandments. You know the ones that we think should be hung everywhere but broken at will. Just joking, but we do make more fuss about the symbolism than the actions in our life. Many people get arrested with crosses around their neck.
I want us to consider verse 20: And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin” The first fear is a state of being scared, and frighten as if God was a monster, or something coming to do harm. The second fear here is more of a healthy fear. This fear does have us understand the consequence of God’s wrath but knowing God is doing this to help us. The chastisement of God is for our benefit not our harm. We reverence God knowing or fearing His correction.
Reflect this weekend on the Ten Commandments. The law of God shows us our need for God. None of us can live sin free and holy without redemption. In the Spirit of God we have His power to do better.
