Today we are looking at Jesus calling His disciples in Matthew 4:18-22; Mark 1:16-20 and Luke 5:1-11.

Here we see Jesus Christ calling His Apostles. Are you amazed that God calls you to follow Him?  Peter was, in Luke 11:8 “Depart from me for I am a sinful man, O’ Lord.”  Do you feel worthy to be a Christian? Do you feel worthy to be a follower of Christ?  In ourselves none of us are worthy to be in the presence of Jesus.  But through the blood of Christ we are made worthy.  It is by the righteousness of Christ being placed on our account that we have become worthy.  It is by the indwelling and sealing of God’s Holy Spirit we are made worthy.  We are not acceptable until we have experienced salvation and have been made part of God’s family.  So in one sense we should all kneel and proclaim our sinfulness before Christ, but in Christ we should all boldly come before the throne of God to find help and mercy.  I am so thankful for GRACE!

When Christ called them they forsook all.  They were willing to give up their career for Christ.  They were willing to leave their families for Christ.  They were willing to go out into the unknown, knowing only Jesus was there to guide them.  Jesus calls all of us into His service with the willingness to forsake everything for the gospel.  Does Jesus own it all?  The awesome part of forsaking everything and follow Christ is that everything about your life becomes His problem.  Jesus has to house you, feed, and provide for you.  So we get to wake up every day not knowing all the details but knowing Christ and Him only.

God gave them a new career of fishing for men.  They had a new career of reaching people with the gospel.   They became the pillars of the New Testament Church.  They turned their world upside down by simply following Jesus.  Why not just turn it all over to Christ and let Him handle your day.

Tomorrow we are reading Matthew 4:23-5:15.  We are just going to continue through Matthew, the group reading through the synoptic gospels got a little confusing.
