Matthew Chapter 6

A deeper relationship with Christ is what we are called to have.  I think we see Christ pushing away religious showmanship for the true meaning of these religious acts.  Religion is not a problem as long as the heart moved by the Spirit is what is causing the religious performances and that religiousness is only for God’s glory.  What we do is for an audience of one.  Our charitable acts should not be done to be seen of men but us responding to the moving of God’s Holy Spirit.  Our prayer lives should be one that is much longer in private with our God than any public display of verbiage.  Our lives should be filled with forgiveness because our hearts overflow with God’s forgiveness for our sins.  Our dedication to God should be seen personally by our commitment to fast and pray.  We should be willing to give up physical substance for the bread of life to fill our souls.  Finally our wealth should not be ours but all of our possessions should belong to God.  Everything we have should be used for His glory and for the advancement of His kingdom.  Yes we can enjoy what God has given us, but our main concern should not be to accumulate more here but to lay up more treasure and rewards in heaven.

The bottom line is, “seek ye first the Kingdom of God”.  This comes about when we allow our minds to be transformed and our lives are controlled by His Spirit and His Word.
