Matthew Chapter 12
Jesus does a miracle for a man who is both without sight and without speech. This man could not see Christ nor speak his desires to Christ, however Christ healed him by casting the demon out that was causing this sickness. Yes demonic beings can cause sickness, sin is the other reason there is sickness. Not necessarily our sins, but the totality of sin brings death and sickness. The problem with our global tragedies can all be summarized into one event, the fall and our continuation in sin. The Pharisees accuse Jesus of doing these miracles by the power of Satan, and Christ takes great offense to this condemnation by these religious leaders. Within this event Christ mentions the “unpardonable sin”. The sin in verse 31 is coming against the Holy Spirit. The rejection was making something that was clearly a work of God into a demonic action. This is not questioning a work through examination of Scripture or the validity of a healing. Remember, Satan does have power to do the miraculous and he will deceive many through these acts. The actions here are clearly denying Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. This step of forgiveness is not taken unknowingly. This step has also not been taken if you have interest in God and are drawn to God. When you are cast out the things of scripture and the spirit will be removed far from you.
Let’s shift some and look at the religious leaders wanting a sign from Jesus in verse 38. WHAT? They just took a miracle as something that should be held against Christ. What they really wanted was God to do a God thing, like move the Sun or Moon. Jesus points to the most assured evidence we will have and that is God’s Holy Word. Do you want a sign? Continue reading God’s Word. There is no way a not inspired book could have lasted this long without being disproved. Here is your sign – B I B L E.
The chapter concludes with the pushing away from Jesus’ early family to us as being His family. We are His brother, sister and mother if we do the will of His Father. This journey of being the family of God starts with salvation and continues with every action being done to glory Christ.
The Spirit is speaking to us today I pray you will continue to grow in His Word.
