Mathew Chapter 21.
The fig tree had the appearance of fruit, but none to be found. God is more concerned about fruit then looking as if you can produce fruit. Don’t look “Christian” but be a Christian. Don’t look “holy” be holy. God does this work in us; there should be a work of God’s Spirit causing us to produce fruit. When our lives cannot change for God or be inconvenienced for God we may have only an appearance of fruit. God wants us to be people of faith that live in the will of God which will produce confidence in the work of God. Therefore, as we live in His will all things will happen for His glory. Do you have a mountain to move today? Start by moving your life in the ways of God. God will empower you, if you have been born again.
The religious rulers had two problems; problem one was they were self-righteous. They did not need the baptism of John nor this Jesus. The second problem was that they feared the people; look at verse 26 and verse 46. My righteousness or status as a “good person” must always rest not in my merits but in the merits of God and His righteousness. Secondly I need Jesus! I need Jesus for salvation. Without redemption I will spend an eternity in Hell. I therefore will not turn my back on Jesus. I may not understand the “what’s up” in life but I NEED Jesus for eternal life, I am all in.
