Faithfulness is the greatest quality to develop in our lives.  Jesus told us if we are faithful over little things we will be rulers over many things.  The key is being faithful to God’s mercy and truths.  We need to stand faithful in serving God.  We cannot control how much we have but we all can control how faithful we are to what God has entrusted us with.

Steps to keep us faithful are found in verses 3-6.  We must first and above all trust in the Lord.  Trust His Word and follow His truths.  Second, we must allow our own understanding to be cancelled out in light of God’s truth. The phrase “what I think” should be kept to a minimum.  Thirdly, we must ask God for direction.  This is us surrendering our wisdom and ways to the authority and ways of God.  The fourth step is to kill the pride in our lives.  “I know what is best,” is a statement of pride that destroys where God wants to take us next.

To help with surrender and pride Proverbs moves us to giving.  When we honor God with all we have and give Him the first part of what we have, there is action to our statement of surrender.  Giving to God financially a tithe and over and above a tithe quickly shows the deepness of our trust in God.  No giving shows a lack of trust.

When we fully trust in Christ there is peace even when there are terrors of war, and poverty around us.  Because we know who has redeemed us and who we belong to.  We also know this world is not our home, one day soon we will see Jesus.
