Honesty is a delight to God! The dishonest scales talked about in verse 1 calls us to being honest in business. Today it would be equal to the gas station setting their pumps to keep a tenth of a tenth by mis-calibrating the scales. It would also be like the grocery store mis-calibrating the scale that your fruit is weighed on. Be honest in all your doings.
The chapter has a list of qualities we should have and I will point out a few here. In Verse 3 he calls us to integrity; verse 4 the call to righteousness; verse 9 tells us to avoid hypocrisy; a couple of times we are told to get understanding; in verse 14 we are told to seek wise counsel; we are to live graciously, mercifully, and lastly I want to point out in this list is verse 30, “He who wins souls is wise” be evangelistic.
The conclusion is if you do right you give yourself opportunity for right things to happen, if you live doing the opposite there is only wrong that can and eventually will happen. Verse 22 gives the point of this needing to be one of inner qualities by giving the example of putting a gold nose ring on a pig. It is still a pig! It is amazing that our culture thinks a nose ring is new, there is nothing new under the sun, and culture is recycled. However, God wants to change us from the inside out. Will we allow His Spirit, God the Spirit, the third person of the trinity to have full surrender and access to change us? He can do a much better job than we can.
