God threads together a few verses here on receiving good correction.  Many athletes on a high school level have trouble in playing college and some in college miss the pros because of their inability to accept correction.  They are good at their sport but they are complete in themselves and refuse to take advice from others.  They are prideful!  In basketball LeBron James is the best at basketball today.  However, in the off season you will hear him talking with others about working on aspects of his game.  Why would he do that if he is the best?  Because there is always room to gain knowledge and to improve, yes always!  Verse one tells us you’re stupid if you do not receive correction, don’t be stupid.  I know some will be mad about me using this word but hey, God wants to be clear and some will not take a hint.

Verse 15 helps us with the attitude of pride and that pride is described as being “a fool is right in his own eyes”.   Is this not what we hear from many young people today when they say “love me the way I am”?  NO! NO! NO!  I will love the unchangeable qualities, but if you’re lacking understanding please receive some counsel and become a better person for the glory of God and our sanity.

Verse 26 concludes the thought for us on receiving wise counsel, choose your friends wisely.  Our peers push us one way or another, all the time.  Friendships are not neutral partners in our life, they all influence us.  The way you dress, the things you like, and the places you go will be determined by your friends.  This is why above all God wants to be our friend, and to be a friend of God we keep His commandments.  God also said if we are friends with the world we are His enemy.  So we must choose friends wisely because they will help shape our world for either God’s glory or our destruction.
