The poor are spoken about a lot here and throughout Proverbs. We are to encourage and care for the poor and those in need. We are also given instruction to what causes some, not all, to be poor. We are told some are poor because of procrastination, laziness, the lack of understanding as well as not taking in wise counsel. This is not the reason for everyone’s situation. Some are born in Ghana or Mexico without resources or the opportunity to make a living. Having riches is not an enemy, we all need resources to live. However, riches without integrity and the fear of God are useless. If you have a close relationship with God and feel “poor”, rejoice you have the best part! On the other hand if you have riches without God your money becomes a stumbling block to God. So at least praise God you now have opportunity to have them both, which is a very blessed life.
If you struggle with poverty find godly people who are there to help you on your journey. There can be easy solutions that God has placed within the body of Christ for you.
