There is power in the gospel! Paul’s testimony is that the gospel of Jesus Christ saves and transforms people. The gospel is the good news of Christ’ death, burial and resurrection. It is good news because the gospel is for those lost in the darkness of sin. The gospel is that amazing light that shows us our sin and our need for redemption. Once the light is seen, repentance and acceptance of Christ’ sacrifice for our sins happens. Paul was excited about this gospel work that saved him and made him an apostle of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles.
This is why Paul becomes very demanding that the light of the gospel does not get filtered, changed or altered in any way. Paul tells us anyone teaching any other gospel should be accursed. Paul extends much grace to many things and tolerance to many teachings. The exception is towards anyone who changes the gospel! Any teaching of works or baptism as the gospel is not the gospel; the gospel is the work of Christ, plus or minus nothing. This is why I really get upset at “Christian” groups that tamper with any aspect of the gospel. Eternity is too long and hell is too hot to get the understanding of the gospel wrong. To say “I think they will be okay”, is a sad declaration of surrender which appeases both sides when some remained lost and condemned. The Gospel can free all men, share the gospel today.
