letter-to-the-galatiansAre you free or living in bondage not intended for you? Paul starts out this portion of scripture talking about heirs being like servants.  They may be an heir, but there are things they must learn to function in life just as everyone else does.  When we are a child our life seems to be regulated by rules.  We live under the authority of someone else.  However when we grow up, we become stewards of our own time and actions.  Paul had a desire for the people to grow into an understanding of their position as sons of God who have the privilege of calling God, Abba Father.  Abba Father is a term of endearment that is seen in a father son relationship.  Nevertheless the people saw their relationship yet return to bondage of sin.  They did not live as heirs but servants under laws.  Freedom in Christ as an heir to the Kingdom of God is to be enjoyed free of Sin, free in God’s never ending love and our everlasting position as His child.  Living and growing in sanctification and in my understanding as God’s child brings peace and enjoyment of life.  Living in sin or forced behavior changes, without the empowerment of the Spirit, brings sadness and slavery.  Yes, there are things I will not stoop down out of my role as a child of God and do! Not because I can’t as a Christian, but because I am a Christian.  I am better than all the bondages of sin.

In all my disobedient behavior my heavenly Father continues to reprove me and teach me how I should behave. And because I am not defiant to the leading of Scripture and the Spirit of God, I still receive the blessings of my heavenly Father, even in my imperfection.  I am a blessed man to the glory of God.  Blessed not because of me, but because of my position as a child of the one true King.
