Colossians chapter three calls us to change. Don’t change for salvation but because you are raised with Christ (The power of the new birth is equal to the power that it took to raise God from the dead) you should seek heavenly things. We are called to kill, which is to separate ourselves from are old fleshly ways, and become spiritual, to change our minds by thinking about scriptural things, and not the things of this world. Salvation brings transformation where we should not go back to the old ways or as some put it, the “normal” way. We are not just like everyone else. Yes we are forgiven, but we are also transformed into a new creation where old things are done away with. We now can see spiritual, heavenly works of God.
How do we change? First, we can only change through repentance of our sins and acceptance of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection for our sins. By this confessing with our mouth and believing in our hearts, we become a child of God filled with the spirit. Second, we continue to surrender our lives over to Christ as living sacrifices for His glory. Third, we seek a renewing of our mind and life by the Spirit that now dwells in us and though the word of God which we must take in as truth. The fourth step is to make sure we connect with “spiritually living people” in a church that seeks to live out biblical truth as we continue to grow in God. Maybe you got saved and felt a drawing to be this new creation but you fell back into the old ways. Surrender and follow Jesus in the new ways. Maybe you followed for a while and have found a comfortable plateau in your spirituality; surrender and continue to grow in sanctification. God changes us daily, and continually until He calls us home and this flesh puts on immortality. There is power, peace and spiritual possessions as we grow in Christ.
