We are purged from dead works to serve a living God. When we were lost, unsaved, not born again, we may have done moral works but we could not do righteous works unto God. Now that we are transformed and have received the new life by the Spirit of God we can do good works for God. Yes, in our lost-ness we can and did live somewhat moral but we behaved through fleshly means of discipline and consequences. Morality can be taught, and should be taught, and the Ten Commandments are a great guideline. However, the power of committing sin was broken when we got saved, and now we have a desire to do the law for God’s honor. The only thing the law could effectively do was demonstrate to myself that I was a law breaking sinner in need of a savior. In Christ comes life and I do not live to please the law, but to please my heavenly Father who gave the law. I no longer live in fear of consequences, but because God loves me, I desire to please Him by demonstrating my love through keeping His Word.
Bottom line, my sins have been purged! I have been purified, made clean by the blood of Christ and nothing can hold me back. Live today as a forgiven child of God who has the privilege and opportunity to do righteous works for His glory.
