The angels are messengers and can be seen as the pastor or messenger of each church. As pastor it is my spiritual duty to strive to walk with God and hear from God on the direction of our church. This is the heavy burden of the pastor who will give account for the spiritual condition of the church God has placed him over. Sometimes all the pastor can do is warn and pray that the people heed the warning from God.
The first church has the problem of leaving their first love. There was no longer an excitement and joy over salvation and their relationship with God. May we never get over the great love God has for us and the sacrifice He made for our redemption. The second church (some see these as stages churches have gone through) has persecution. Any church today that holds to the Word of God will have some persecution. You and I will see persecution if we live out God’s Word. The third church finds themselves compromising. Sometimes when there is persecution we want peace over truth. There is no way to compromise on “thus sayeth the Lord.” After compromise you see the fourth church being corrupt, doing things against God’s Word. Please note they all are doing some good, so that they can justify their actions. They may say; “people are coming to Christ.” Or “we are sharing God’s love”.
Verse 25 and 26 encourages us to hold on until the end! Everyone that does not give up will rule over the nations with God. Our primary goal is to glorify God and keep His Word. Out of his truth we love and reach people with the gospel.
Ask God to rekindle your first love for Him and search your heart to see if there is any evil way.
