Today we are reading chapter 14 of Genesis.
An army comes in and destroys and kills the king of Sodom. They take everything of value including Lot and his wife. The news gets to Abram who gathers 318 “trained servants” and he takes after them. Abram arms these men and I just wonder if they were trained in some type of fighting. People of God must be prepared for battle. The men of Abram are divided as they come upon this un-expecting army and the army destroys them, acquiring everything back. There seems to be some untold miracle or strong working of God’s power. Live prepared to fight spiritually for your family. Be trained and help others to be trained in spiritual warfare. The Devil wants to destroy families. Don’t leave your family in the enemy’s camp! Arm yourself with the armor of God and retrieve them for God’s glory. You cannot do it alone, Satan has an army, let the church help in your fight.
After the battle, Abram gives Melchizedek, the high priest 10%, a tithe. Who is this Melchizedek? Hebrews 7:1-4: “For this Melchizedek, King of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, to whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all, first being translated “king of righteousness,” and then also king of Salem, meaning “king of peace,” without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, to whom even the patriarch Abraham gave a tenth of the spoils.”
This leads us to understand that Melchizedek was a glorious manifestation of God incarnate. God is our eternal priestly mediator who deserves our offerings of money, praise and labor. In victory and in days of peace always remember to praise and worship God. There is a continual spiritual battle and we must be ready for spiritual war.
