God moves into action in this chapter on the covenant He made with Abram, whose name is now Abraham. God does two things: first, He tells Abraham they will have a son and they will name him Isaac (which means laughter). Tell me God does not have a sense of humor. Secondly, God sets up a sign of the covenant. God wants all the males 8 days and older to be circumcised. Remember this does not make the covenant happen it is a sign of the covenant with God. Baptism is a sign of our salvation. When we enter the new covenant through salvation we should be willing to be baptized as a visible sign of our surrender to Christ. Sarai’s name is changed to Sarah.
I wonder how often we move before God and do not wait on God? Do you think God has this sudden laughter when His covenant people think they have a better way?
