Today we are reading chapter 22 of Genesis as we continue to explore God’s plan to redeem all those who will call upon His name.
This chapter is one of those chapters in which we wish God would let us know a little more. This was God ‘Tempting”, really the word means test or to prove Abraham. God wanted Abraham to prove his love for him is stronger than his love for his family. God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac whom he loved. All along there seems indications that Abraham knew God was going to do something miraculous. Abraham trusted the word of God as well as all of God’s promises. Regardless of what was truly in the mind of God, Abraham chose God over his family. This is a very hard statement to make in our culture today. Parents too often make a choice to benefit their children or to give in to their children over their love and commitment to God. We believe God will understand. What we really need to remember is God the Father was willing to give up His Son for us, and for His glory. Making God first is not just a saying it, but an action that is tested daily in our lives.
