GenesisJoseph tells his brothers that God had a plan in the selling of him into slavery.  That God meant it for good.  God wanted to save the people.  This is a divine plan of God with the people of God.  There are so many ways to try and talk about this situation.  I do believe this is not a call to believe every situation is a divine appointment by God.  This situation was a divine time to save Israel.  Now, I believe everything is seen by God, and allowed.  But, I even have trouble saying this, because I know of innocent people caught up in the wickedness of other people’s sin.  I know God allows the sin, and it is not God but the sinner that has sinned.  I know in the end they will be judged.  But I see the innocent person’s life destroyed.  Like Joseph here.  Joseph however got to see the reason, and the glory of God in his situation.  Many do not get this privilege.  God does promise to work in every situation if we will love and obey Him.  I hope you also understand some situations are caused by our sins.  The only plan God has there is bringing us to repentance.  Remember the passage of scripture where Jesus could not do many mighty works because of their unbelief.  We can limit God and miss out on God’s best for our life.  Remember there are consequences to our actions, and we cannot believe it is God’s fault.  God can use you in prison for His glory, but the reason for your imprisonment was sin.  Never make a disappointing situation brought about by sin a divine moment when you’re the one living in sin.  This divine moment is to bring us to repentance.  Now, in our repentance, God can take all those broken pieces of our lives and make something wonderful for His glory.   The mercy and grace of God should never cause us to accept our life of sin as a divine appointment of God.
