Exodus-2Moses has a visit from his father-in-law, Jethro.  And I quote Keil and Delitzsch: “The Amalekites had met Israel with hostility, as the prototype of the heathen who would strive against the people and kingdom of God. But Jethro, the Midianitish priest, appeared immediately after in the camp of Israel, not only as Moses’ father-in-law, to bring back his wife and children, but also with a joyful acknowledgement of all that Jehovah had done to the Israelites in delivering them from Egypt, to offer burnt-offerings to the God of Israel, and to celebrate a sacrificial meal with Moses, Aaron, and all the elders of Israel; so that in the person of Jethro the first-fruits of the heathen, who would hereafter seek the living God, entered into religious fellowship with the people of God. As both the Amalekites and Midianites were descended from Abraham, and stood in blood-relationship to Israel, the different attitudes which they assumed towards the Israelites foreshadowed and typified the twofold attitude which the heathen world would assume towards the kingdom of God.”

Jethro gives Moses some great administrative advice.  The world has some knowledge and wisdom that we should never turn a deaf ear to.  However, it is when they turn to speculating and theology they usually destroy themselves.  We must realize there are some systems that will work in the short term, but that will destroy us in the long run.  As our church grows we must get better at allowing others to carry some of the load so that the big picture and goal never gets lost.  I praise God that we are at the stage of change, and God has given us a spiritual mind of unity to reevaluate, and move forward in Christ.  God has great things awaiting us in the not too distant future.
