Here the Children of Israel are complaining again. Their needs overshadow the realization that God is leading them. They are clearly being led by God. They have a pillar of fire by night, and a cloud by day directing their steps. God is giving them Manna each day. They become the center of the situation instead of God. They just have difficulty waiting on the Lord. Sometimes we must remember that we do not have the big picture of God. God is at work! God does have a plan! When we are where God wants us, and doing what He has called us to do, we can know for sure God will provide. God did give them water from the rock. Jesus is our rock that can satisfy every need.
The Children of Israel now find themselves in a battle. Joshua is called to assemble the men for battle. This is the first mention of Joshua, the future leader of Israel. God allowed them to win when Moses’ staff was held high. When it was lowered the opposition advanced. Hur and Aaron helped steady Moses hand that was placed upon the rock. Settle your life on Jesus, our rock, for victory, and gather yourself people of faith within the church to help steady your life. Together in Christ we can, and will win the victory.
