Jesus heals a blind man.  The man is a one chapter object lesson for the Disciples of Christ to learn, for the Pharisees to learn, and for this blind man to learn to follow Christ.  We all fall under one of these categories and may God help us learn more about Him.

The disciples ask who has sinned, this man or his parents?  First, sin produces problems and even physical ailments.  The question was not one that is designed to be mean, but a question to seek answers.  Sin produced death and sickness.  Remember Jesus said, being quoted by Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:27concerning the Lord’s Supper, some sleep (they are dead), and others are sickly for taking the Lord’s Supper unworthily.  So sin can produce sickness.  Don’t take living in sin lightly.

But, some things are permitted in our lives for the purpose of God.  Job is our example for this.  The only reason this man was born blind was for the purpose of this object lesson of Christ’s power and authority.  What are you going through today that God wants to use as an object lesson for His glory? You mean God permitted this? Yes.  We are His creation & God can do what He wants.

The blind man was healed and the Pharisees did not like it.  Why? Not because they were following Scripture, but because they wanted to be in control.  When you follow scripture you are surrendering to God, but when you add to scripture you now are calling people to follow you.  Too many do not apply scripture to their life… we need to live out these truth.  But there is a balance, my conviction is not scripture and even though I live that conviction out for God’s glory, it is not the standard for everyone.

The saddest part of the story is this, Jesus was right there and they missed Him.  In verse 38 the blind man believed and worshipped.  The “blind man” – sometimes you are known for who you were, but eventually you need to be known for who He is in your life.

Have you been spiritually healed? Have you received the Lord Jesus as your savior and Lord?  Jesus died on the cross to bring us to Jesus.  But then Jesus illuminates us by His Spirit so we can worship Him.  Maybe you miss it because you never got it.  Repentance is the key!

Thanks for staying with it!
