Today we reflect on Jesus’ journey to the cross.

He was scourged:  Beaten and flogged.

A crown of thorns was put on His head.

After this Pilate tries to save Jesus.  Pilate looks at God, looks into the eyes of the incarnation of God; he looks into the eyes of Jesus Christ and tells Him that he has power to let Him go.  How humorous that a mere man thinks he is in control of anything.  Christ clears the air and lets Pilate know that any power or authority is granted and permitted by God.   How humorous that we think we can control our health, our day’s activities, and even when we are to die.  Nothing is in our control!  I can only say if it be God’s will I will awake in the morning.  It is only by the permission of God that I am able to eat, breath and walk.  God holds everything together including you and me.

Jesus carried the cross, my cross, and your cross to Golgotha.

Jesus cared for His mother.  In all His pain Christ still took care of others.  When Christ was on that cross, I was on His mind.  When Christ was on that cross you were on His mind.  How wonderful it is to have God think about you and me.  Thank you Jesus for thinking of me while on the cross, and taking upon you my sins.

Jesus suffered for us and died after declaring “it is finished”.  Our sins have been atoned for.  My sins are paid in full, are yours?

Don’t miss verse 39, Nicodemus who could not understand in chapter 3 gets it!  Nicodemus got a hold of the meaning you must be born again.  For Nicodemus, a religious teacher of the Jews, to take Jesus off the cross was a statement of transformation.

Jesus was placed in the tomb having died for your sins and mine.
