Now on the first day of the week! I love the first day of the week! We meet on Sundays, the first day of the week because of this next event. Why would you miss any service on Sunday to celebrate something deemed more important that the celebration of this next event. This next event changed everything, and if you’re a Christian it changed everything for you. Now, after Jesus was in the grave three days. Now, after Jesus was guarded in the tomb so no one could take His body. Now, Mary Magdalene goes to the tomb. She saw the stone was rolled away! This was not to let Jesus out but to let us in to see the empty tomb.
The disciples go to the tomb. They are frustrated and think that someone had taken the body of Jesus. But two angels appear to set the record straight. They ask the question, why are you weeping? Then she turns and the person, who she believes to be the gardener ask, why are you weeping? She wants to know where they took Jesus and the “gardener” speaks and calls her name, Mary. When Jesus calls your name, you are made more alive than ever. Jesus who was dead is now alive!
The disciples are having a meeting later and Jesus shows up. Jesus not only shows up but gives them all the power of the Holy Ghost. Now, one of the disciples, Thomas, was not there. Thomas would not believe Jesus showed up unless he got to see Jesus. Don’t miss a church service because you may miss the one where the Spirit of God falls and Jesus shows up in a big way. There are some things in life that cannot be repeated. I anticipate God to show up in a big way every service, every time we meet. I hope you are praying this same way.
Verse 21, Jesus sends the disciples out as the Father has sent Jesus out. We are also sent out as the disciples and Christ were sent out by God. We are sent out to make much of Jesus. We are sent out to glorify the Lord. We are sent out to tell everyone the good news of salvation. Be a friend of God, be about His Word. Celebrate the event of Jesus’ resurrection daily!
Did you notice Thomas made church the next week. And Jesus showed up and Thomas got to see Christ, the risen Lord.
This is written so we will believe. There is more that Christ did than this, but this is enough for us to believe. Do you believe? I pray you do.
