Many of us are finishing John today. Some finished earlier, and some will finish in the next ten days. No matter where you are continue on and allow God to speak to you through His Word. Remember it is not about finishing, but growing in our faith and ways of God. God works more effectively in you as you take in His Word.
Some believe Jesus sent them out to fish, awaiting Christ. However, we see the disciples out fishing. This encounter gives Jesus time to do one more miracle, and to have one more relationship moment. Jesus yells out and tells them to cast the net on the other side. Jesus could have moved the fish to the net; but Jesus seems to always look for us to respond to His call and His directions.
Jesus has a beast feast ready for His disciples. The disciples talk and fellowship with Jesus. Too many people live in the baby stages of Christianity. Baby Christians miss the opportunity to enjoy a meal with the Lord, praising Him, thanking Him and taking in more of Him. What the disciples went through with Jesus gave them the privilege to have this wonderful time.
Peter gets questioned by Jesus. I think three questions for the three times Peter denied Christ. Jesus wanted Peter to know he was forgiven.
Follow what happens, Peter surrenders without argument and declares to Christ, you know all things. It always boggles my mind when people say “God knows my heart”. They say it as if their heart is better than their actions. Just so you know, it scares me that God knows my heart, it keeps me before His throne in repentance. This is why I need to stay in His Word, to keep my heart from straying. All our actions start in the secret places of our hearts.
Peter is told that he will die for the glory of God. Jesus explains Peter’s future and ends with ‘follow me’. Peter then turns his concern for what may happen to the other disciples, after all God if I am going to die for you should not everyone? Jesus said what I do with my followers is of none of your concern, your concern is for you to focus on me, not on what everyone else is doing or receives from my Hand.
That’s what we are called to do, to be followers of Jesus. Change your life so that every step aligns with Jesus and His Word.
We will start 1 John on February 1st and continue through 2nd and 3rd John. That is only seven chapters. We will take two weeks to read these books. And start into the book of Acts on February 15th.
