John 20:30 “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book.”   Some of what John is talking about is written in Matthew, Mark, and Luke.   Those three books are what we call the synoptic gospels.  Synoptic means same, and those three books follow the same patterns of Jesus’ life, where John takes a different route.   The other thing John may be referring to is how he ended the book, “and there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one.  I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.”   We know Jesus did more than what God kept for us in the Bible.  But what we have in the Bible is all we need.  It would have been interesting to have a book by Joseph or some information on where he was at the end of Jesus’ life.  It would be cool to have a book of all the things Mary pondered in her heart.  But what we have is the full canon of Scripture.  These are the books God inspired and gave without error for our path in following Jesus.  But yet we are still drawn as a bug is to a light to those “what ifs” of life.  It is okay to wonder, but don’t make any what ifs into what may have happened that distorts your view of what we have and know has happened.

Let me encourage you to have a high view of Scripture and a low view of strange interpretations and mystical things.  The word of God that you are reading is the power of God to transform, and to change lives (Hebrews 4:12; Romans 10:17).  The Bible we have is all the Bible we need to know how to live and know God’s expectations of us.  The Spirit will guide us in these truths.  Don’t put experience above what God has already said He would or would not do.
