One of the Ten Commandments is stressed here. We are commanded not to covet. The USA has a coveting problem; we desire and desire and desire what someone else has. It is very hard to teach our children what a need really is. Matthew6:33 calls us to seek God first, which means above everything. But I want it! Do I dare bring in the whole call to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Christ? The question really is do you want God more?
Most overweight situations happen because we eat what we desire without any idea of denying ourselves. Most debt is because we want it now and cannot tell ourselves no. Yes it is okay to have nice things but nice things should not have you. The USA has the funds to reach the world for Christ but we want something that will bring us self-enjoyment. How many souls could be won if we sold a little of our fun?
The other aspect of coveting is pride. Most of what we want is to make a statement of what we can afford. What has that status symbol cost you?
Enjoy what you have unless you robbed God to obtain it or it steals you away from serving and glorifying God.
