Get up! The just man falls seven times and gets back up, verse 16. They do not stay in sin boasting that there are many down here and in the same situation. It is the wicked, not the redeemed, that fall and stay in their ways of mischief. We are called to break free of sin and to live in the strength and wisdom of God. Seek God’s wisdom and enjoy counsel from wise godly people. When we fall we can all use a little help getting back up.
Verse 17 and 18 made me laugh. Don’t make fun of your enemy when they fall for this reason; God will be displeased with our rejoicing in their trouble. Maybe it’s me, but living right so your enemies stay under the wrath of God made me smile. However, I do pray for my enemies and that this wrath will bring them to repentance where they can find God. After all we do trust God to avenge and to sustain us. We all know that if it were not for the grace of God we would be in the same place as they are.
