This chapter mentions training up our children in the way of the Lord. First in verse 6 there is an assumption that there is a way. Parents must learn and know the way so that they can show and live out the way for their children to see and experience. Our children do not need to know about God as much as they need to know God.
This is reinforced in verse 15 when we are told to drive out the foolishness by the rod. Discipline correctly applied is designed by God. When one does wrong, or acts rebellious, correction must be applied. (see also chapter 23:13,14) To use corporal punishment is quick, and it works. We need to render the discipline with instruction for correct living. The problem we have today is there is no clear way we are striving to train our child up in. Parents we’ve got to have a plan! The plan is found here in God’s Word.
Our heavenly Father has a plan for us and He corrects us when we have foolishness in our hearts and divert from His plan. However God wants this to be experiential and not just theoretical. Through the Spirit of God we should experience Godly characteristics.
Have a great day being part of the family of God!
