Colossians It is so important that we read God’s Word.  Why, you ask?  Verses 9 & 10 of our reading will answer it.  To be filled with the knowledge of Him with all wisdom and spiritual understanding.  Why do we want this knowledge?  As we read on we see it is to please Him, God.  Our goal is to please God, not to make ourselves happy, and God through us receives the glory.

Here is what we need to keep in mind; God’s knowledge and wisdom will lead us into a greater and more blessed life.  To know the mind of God and to be led by God, (through the Spirit which never contradicts God’s Holy Word) in every aspect of life.  Do you need a better relationship? Do you need a better financial situation? Do you need a better life? YES! The answer is to be grounded in God’s Word and allow His wisdom to be applied to your life.  I know personally when I drift away from my anchored truths of God’s Word I find myself disappointed.

You and I have trouble changing because of pride. We hear too often how people are “proud of themselves” even when they fail or do something destructive to others.  Pride is a key sin that Satan is using to blind us as God’s people.  A good self-esteem for confidence is needed, but it should never reach the level of pride.   In verse 28 Paul warns every man of the sin that consumes us and overshadows our need to be made perfect in Christ Jesus.

Paul was excited and thankful for these brothers in Christ at Colossi.  He was thankful for their faith in Jesus and their love for all the saints.  Our culture (I include myself) worships the created things (we call blessings) more than the creator of all of this.  Do you need Jesus, want Jesus, and do you desire to please Jesus?

This is where I find my heart this morning, conflicted with worshiping the blessings and pretty happy with me.  I need my heart broken for the things of Jesus.
