We are reading Chapter 14 of the book of Luke.
What do we give up for God? We see a parable where people were invited, but they had an excuse. They were busy doing something else of importance to them. We can no longer set Sundays aside to be with the church, and we have “good” and reasonable excuses. God calls us to forsake all! In verse 26 there is a list we see a few times in scripture, to hate father, mother, wife, children, brothers and sisters. We know this is in comparison to Christ. But really in our culture what do we say no to? The church is God’s design and is where He placed you and me to be. The Church service is an indication of how we follow God. It is clear in scripture that He told us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. If we do not sacrifice to be here where we know He wants us, what are really forsaking to follow Christ in other areas of our life? I agree it is a heart thing, but remember in yesterday’s reading the heart needs to repent.
A little challenging chapter today.
