There are three battles going on here in this chapter. Jacob’s battle with Esau his brother, our physical battles. Jacob’s battle with himself, what should he do and say. Jacob also this night had a battle with an angel of God. Every day we seem to battle the world, ourselves, and what God wants to do. Jacob battled with God until he received a blessing from the Lord. God also changed Jacob’s name to Israel. Maybe God wants to just change everything about you this year. Could it be that God wants to change your circumstance with others so that you have peace and favor with men? There is no doubt the biggest battle I fight is within. Should I have said or done this or that. Do you wrestle with the things of God? In order to have victory in our lives we much champion the things of God so that our lives will bring glory to God. The more we bring glory to God the more we will find joy, happiness, and peace. For one, the battle within slows down because it’s not about me. Secondly, God gives us favor with those around us as His light shines through us. Do battle until Christ is Lord of all of your life.
