Wow, what an awesome statement in the opening verse: “Now you will see what I will do”. Moses gets a front road seat to the work and power of God. Moses stepped out believing God’s word, which is faith, and now God is going to do a great work.
God introduces himself under a new name for Moses. Abraham received God’s name in Genesis as El Shaddai or the Almighty God. Now God allows Moses to see another name of God which is Jehovah. God is introducing himself “as the absolute Being working with unbounded freedom in the performance of His promises.” Jehovah- the existing one. God is going to work in His promised covenant with Israel. Not only is God the Almighty one, but the self-existing one that can work all things out for His glory and His purpose.
When we trust God and follow His Word, we too can step back, and watch the power of God work in our situations. When we go away from God, and His Word we forfeit His blessings and strength to work in our situation. Now as we see in this chapter, His way may be harder at first, and even very difficult. But we do not serve a God who works for us. We serve the Almighty Jehovah, and we do it for His glory. Just to be part of God’s work and plan should be awesome enough.
