A few days later Jesus is having dinner with Lazarus and Mary. Mary, who was upset at Jesus, now anointed His feet with very expensive oil. The Jesus, who showed up “late” was now a well invited guest at the dinner table. Don’t base Jesus on emotions or what you think He should or should not have done in your life. Base your relationship on the sure understanding that Christ is Lord, the Son of God who is equal with God. Christ deserves our worship for that reason alone.
Notice that many came to Jesus because of Lazarus being brought back to life. What sacrifice for God’s glory are we willing to make for others to be saved? It is sad that if someone even talks a little bad towards us we shut up and blend in. God wants to use you and me to win many to Christ, let His glory shine in you.
Jesus has this triumphal entry into the city. Almost everyone is praising Him and desires for Him to be King. Yet some do not want this new ruler. Both parties involved were seeking their own way. Jesus teaches that they must lose their lives for the cause of God’s glory. Jesus even had to surrender to God’s purpose. Verse 43 said many did not want to follow Christ because they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. That is the question for us today; do we desire God to be glorified in us or man’s praises? Do we want to be big in this world or do we desire to be great in God’s Kingdom? The tangible seems to draw us way too many times from the Spiritual. The desire to live a normal life with a title of Christian seems to be just okay. I am a good person and I am a Christian, therefore I am loved by those without and those within the Church. Yes the world should have nothing to say against us, other than that we are consumed by Christ. Yet, Jesus in Revelation said He desires to vomit us out for being lukewarm (Revelation 3:16). Having our devotions divided between this world and the spiritual world is sickening to God.
I think this is the hardest process for Christianity, knowing when to say I should not participate, and when to say I am in. Key number one: don’t break any biblical principles or doctrines to be in. Key number two: don’t do anything that will bring dishonor to God’s glory and your testimony for God. The third key: do only that which will aid your walk with God and not hinder it. (See 1 Corinthians 9)
