John 12:1-11
Can you waste anything on Jesus? Many times churches debate this very question. If money is spent to bring in a teacher that makes much of Jesus, is the money wasted? If money is spent on a mission trip, could not the money have been used for something better? Judas ask the same question; “why not take this money and feed the poor?” Jesus said something very interesting, “The poor ye have with you; but me ye have not always.” Jesus was not saying don’t give to the poor; scripture is clear we should do that. The opportunity to be with Jesus was going to be gone soon, and they should take every moment available. When it comes to where to spend the money, walk close enough to the Lord so you can here where it is best used for His Kingdom and His Work.
What do you think of that? My opportunity to serve Christ today may not be available tomorrow, so serve Christ while you can. Opportunities today may not last; I must live and capture the opportunity while I have time. The focus should be on following Christ and worshiping Christ so intimately we know what is being done for Him.
I look at our opportunities that we have with our kids, those days go way too fast not to worship God with them. I look at the opportunities God has given us through Upward Sports, AWANA, Sunday school, and worship. Don’t take for granted they will always be available. There are many things in life to share with family, but there is nothing with greater eternal value that worship and service to God. My greatest family time is doing God’s work together.
When we walk with God we need not worry about what we spend on the things of God! He is worth it and He will give back over and over again. She spent nearly a year’s pay on her Lord. Could you give that much up in worship to God? You cannot have secret motives as we have seen in Judas. You have to have a surrendered heart before God.
Don’t do it without the relationship or out of some duty or service, but do it because you desire to and God is moving you to.
